I feel that content dealing with Motherhood is grossly unrepresented in the art world today. The idea of a woman being both artist and mother is somewhat of a taboo in popular contemporary art. The switch from the independent and somewhat wreak-less person to becoming the vessel which creates, holds and gives life to a separate human life is a remarkable change, sacrifice, and struggle. I feel that the pre and postpartum experience is so incredibly romanticized that it becomes of less and less importance. After all, women give birth everyday. Because of this, the journey that a woman's body undergoes from conception all the way to a child's adulthood is mostly cast aside as a basic, everyday occurrence. This allows the somewhat terrifying, traumatic sacrifice fade away along with much of the beautiful moments that make up a Mother's unmatchable love. A journey to find oneself while discovering one's child go hand in hand and it is one that can be understood fully only by those who have experienced it personally. My art is about that journey.
